An update on recent changes to the NDIS

Published 17.10.24 words by Serena Moran Posted in News

As you may know, recent changes to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) came into effect on October 3, 2024. We have reviewed the updates shared on the NDIS website, as well as the information sent out by their CEO which you can view here, to understand how these changes impact our Accessible Film Studies Program at Bus Stop Films.

The most notable update clarifies the types of supports that will and will not be covered under the NDIS. Fortunately, our program remains fully covered under several key categories.

Areas Covered by NDIS for Our Program:

  • 102 Assistance to Access and Maintain Employment

  • 106 Assistance in coordinating or managing life stages, transitions, and supports

  • 107 Development of Daily Living and Life Skills

  • 04_105_0125_6_1 (Saturday classes) Participation in community, social, and civic activities

  • 04_106_0125_6_1 (Sunday classes) Participation in community, social, and civic activities

  • 04_104_0125_6_1 (weekday classes) Participation in community, social, and civic activities

    Common Reasons for Rejection

Some participants may experience challenges when seeking funding approval for our program. Here are two common reasons why an application might be rejected:

  1. Misclassification by LACs or Plan Managers: Some may mistakenly categorize our program as being related to school education, higher education, or vocational education and training. However, as outlined in our NDIS Quote letter, Bus Stop Films is not a registered RTO or a provider of higher education or VET. It’s crucial to emphasize this distinction in your communications.

  2. NDIS Registered Provider Confusion: While Bus Stop Films is not an NDIS registered provider, this is not a requirement for our program to be funded under the new guidelines.

Support for Rejected Applications

If your NDIS funding application has been rejected for any reason, please reach out to us. We can provide letters of support to address the specific concerns raised in your case. Simply email us at hello@busstopfilms.com.au.

In addition, we will be hosting an online NDIS support session via Zoom in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on your inbox for further details once the date is confirmed.

We are here to help you navigate these changes and ensure you continue to have access to our inclusive, life-changing film studies program.
