Blue Mountains Pop Up Showcase

Bus Stop Films has been delivering our Accessible Filmmaking Program in the Blue Mountains since 2022, but it’s now been 16 years since the organisation started with a win at the iconic Tropfest film festival back in 2009, and there’s much to celebrate.

Bus Stop’s programs offer people with intellectual disability or autism, filmmaking, friendship and capacity building and connects them into employment in the screen industry. Through the program, Bus Stop Films also produces brilliant films, which celebrate the creativity and capacity of people with disabilities.

We have had wonderful support for our Program in the Mountains from Blue Mountains City Council and Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, where the workshops have been delivered.

Scenic World Katoomba, have also been an amazing support to Bus Stop Films. In 2023 the Blue Mountains class filmed our short film Smoke and Mirrors there, with the team kindly hosting our participants and our cast and crew. Additionally, Head of Operations, Jason Cronshaw, kindly opened up his home for the class to film their 2024 film, The Tide Turns. In 2022, our first Blue Mountains program film, Head Over Wheels, starred tennis champ and Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott AM. All films featured many local cast and crew.

This year Screen NSW has supported Bus Stop Films to host a series of Pop Up Showcase events across NSW through their Audience Development Program, and we’re bringing the pop up to the Blue Mountains.

Additionally, this year, as part of Bus Stop’s 16th birthday celebrations, we are hosting a Bus Stop Employment Roadshow, a series of events nationally we are participating in or hosting at all 16 of our locations to connect to the community and industry about our employment support and consultancy services. The project is supported by the federal government through a Building Employer Confidence Grant, for our Inclusive Crewing Project. This also includes support for our feature film Boss Cat.

And in more Blue Mountains magic, Bus Stop Films will be shooting our first feature film Boss Cat, in the Blue Mountains later this year. Boss Cat will be the debut creature of BSF Co-Founder and Blue Mountains local Genevieve Clay-Smith. The film will add much to the local region in both dollar and cultural value and celebrate the region’s creative industries and unique locations. The film will feature people with disability on screen and many employed across the production.

On March 18th we will be hosting a pop up showcase at Scenic World – the event will celebrate our connection to the Blue Mountains, and the iconic tourist attraction and showcase the films we have made in the region and some from our national program. It will also be a chance for locals to learn more about Bus Stop Employment and how it supports people with all types of disabilities to gain work in the screen industry.

The event is free but you need to secure your place.

The night will be Auslan interpreted and include pizza and drinks for all guests.

All films will be captioned.

We are delighted to support Bus Stop Films and celebrate together inclusivity in the creative community in the Blue Mountains. It’s also wonderful to share the same passion for inclusivity; at Scenic World we take pride in offering unique accessible experiences so people from all over the world can immerse themselves in the natural wonders around us.”

Jason Cronshaw, Head of Operations, Scenic World

“I am so grateful to the Blue Mountains community for the welcoming and collaborative support we’ve received for our programs and projects. It’s so lovely to now bring the films back to the community and watch them together, while celebrating our 16th year of inclusive filmmaking.”
